The Zener Diode #
A Zener diode is designed to operate in reverse bias at a precise Zener voltage (\(V_Z\)), maintaining constant voltage across its terminals. It’s a simple voltage regulator.
Voltage Regulator Circuit #
Series resistor \(R_s\), Zener in parallel with the load. \(I_s = \frac{V_{in} - V_Z}{R_s}\), \(I_Z = I_s - I_L\).
Common values #
3.3V, 5.1V, 6.8V, 9.1V, 12V, 15V, 18V, 24V.
Applications #
Voltage stabilization, overvoltage protection, precise voltage reference.
